World Cup is here.. FINALLY

I love the world cup. I love that for one month, soccer is on TV 5 days a week. Even basic channels, instead of having to pay for the premiere soccer channels, show games at the asscrack of dawn. This time around, I find myself cheering for the underdogs, hoping to get the snooty teams of their high horse. (France and Italy look like idiots)

Im sad that Americans aren't more excited about the World Cup. I find myself at the bar, screaming at the tv. The person next to me is usually asking me questions, because they are so ignorant about the rules of the game. I find myself explaining corner kicks, yellow cards, and sudden death. Didn't everyone play soccer as a kid? When they were like 4 years old, it looked like a swarm of bumblebees; the whole team of kids all running after the ball and chasing it around.. even the goalie was out of the box chasing the ball.

I know soccer isn't "america's game", but it is the world's most popular sport. I love going to other countries to find fellow football fans who are so passionate about it , its almost scary. kinda like we wisconsinites are about the packers.

I'm hoping USA shows up this cup and really does a good job. At least gets through the second round. Maybe we can all get excited about soccer again, wake our country up and smell the coffee. our team needs to show our country that soccer really isnt that boring, but its addicting.

And its fun to collect soccer jerseys if nothing else.
